The 12864B V2.0 uses the ST7920 controller, a widely used component in Arduino projects. This display operates via SPI and is user-friendly, making it compatible with most microcontrollers. It supports various graphic functions, allowing you to create frames and even small animations.
Instead of accepting ASCII inputs like traditional character displays, this display requires you to control individual pixels by turning them ON/OFF. While this may seem like a limitation, it actually offers the advantage of creating custom fonts in any size. These fonts are stored in the microcontroller and sent to the display, with tutorials available to guide you through the process.
The 12864B Graphic LCD module features a 128 x 64 pixel resolution with a blue backlight and white text. Fully programmable, it supports both text and graphics, and can be set to operate in either parallel or serial (SPI) mode, adjustable via the external PSB pin. In SPI mode, only three data pins are needed to control the display.
This large, bright blue LCD with white backlit pixels is well-known for its use in 3D printers, particularly as an accessory for RAMPS controllers. If you're looking to add a visual element to your Arduino projects, this display is an excellent graphical upgrade from the popular 16x2 LCD, offering complete control over graphical content.
Beyond just text, the 12864B series allows users to draw shapes like lines, circles, and boxes, manage individual pixels, clear specific areas, control the backlight, and adjust the baud rate. The module’s pins are clearly labeled on the back for easy connection, and it integrates smoothly with RAMPS controllers in 3D printers.
