The Green A4988 Stepper Motor Driver - Normal Quality is a comprehensive micro-stepping motor driver with an integrated converter, making it user-friendly. It operates within a voltage range of 8V to 35V and can deliver around 1A per phase without the need for a heat sink or forced airflow (it can handle up to 2A per coil with adequate cooling).
The A4988 driver features a fixed off-time current regulator, which can operate in either slow or mixed decay mode. This converter is crucial for the straightforward implementation of the A4988.
There are no complicated phase sequence tables or high-frequency control interface programming required. The A4988 interface is well-suited for complex microprocessors that may be unavailable or overloaded. During stepping operations, the A4988 automatically chooses the appropriate current decay mode (slow or mixed) through its chopping control. The mixed decay current control scheme helps reduce audible motor noise, enhance step accuracy, and decrease power consumption.
Additionally, it includes internal synchronous rectification control circuitry to improve pulse width modulation (PWM) power efficiency during operation.
Internal circuit protection includes thermal shutdown with hysteresis, under-voltage lockout (UVLO) and crossover current protection. Dont need special power-up sequencing. A4988 uses a surface mount QFN package (ES), the size is 5 mm 5 mm, nominal overall package height is 0.90 mm, with an exposed thermal pad to enhance the heat dissipation function.
