The TCRT5000 Single Channel Line Tracking Sensor Module is an excellent choice for detecting lines in a line-following robot. It features a potentiometer that allows for adjusting the sensitivity of the individual sensors.
This module serves as a carrier board for the TCRT5000 reflective optical sensor. While it is specifically designed for line-following robots, it can also be applied in mini-sumo robots for line control. The board provides a digital output.
The operation of the line follower sensor is based on the behavior of light interacting with black and white surfaces. When light hits a white surface, it is mostly reflected, whereas a black surface absorbs nearly all the light. This principle is utilized to create the line follower sensor.
Each phototransistor is connected to a pull-up resistor, forming a voltage divider that generates an analog voltage output ranging from 0V to VIN (typically 5V), depending on the amount of reflected infrared light. A lower output voltage indicates a higher level of reflection.
