The NE555 is a pulse frequency duty cycle adjustable module that functions as a square wave signal generator. It offers a selectable output frequency range, although the duty cycle and frequency cannot be adjusted independently; changing the duty cycle will also affect the frequency. This module provides a single-channel signal output with a square wave duty ratio of approximately fifty percent.

Typically, the module generates pulses ranging from about 4Hz to 1.3kHz, utilizing the well-known NE555 timer IC configured as an astable multivibrator. It features a ten-turn frequency adjustment control and a power-on LED, making it suitable for applications such as generating stepper motor pulses and testing equipment.

The 555 timer IC is an integrated circuit used in various timer, pulse generation, and oscillator applications. It can be employed to create time delays, serve as an oscillator, or function as a flip-flop element. Variants of the 555 can provide up to four timing circuits within a single package. Since its introduction by Signetics in 1971, the 555 remains widely used due to its simplicity, low cost, and reliability, and is manufactured by many companies in both the original bipolar and low-power CMOS types.
